enjoying quiet time. and a major compliment! September 7, 2007
My husband has been away for nearly two weeks, filming in Japan. I miss him. But I’ve enjoyed the quiet time, too. I’ve gotten some important things done. It’s hard to keep track of the time difference between Los Angeles and Tokyo. Yesterday I miscalculated, and woke him up around 5 a.m. Oops.
Then I remembered this very helpful site: the world clock. Once I found it and bookmarked it, I figured, I have nothing better to do than to look around the web and find more useful and interesting sites. Here’s a sampling of what I found. Maybe I’ll do this on a regular basis. At least I’ll feel that my surfing isn’t so aimless if I’m sharing what I found with you.
- If you’ve ever wanted to try beer cupcakes, here’s a recipe.
- Delightful postcards and prints at Curly Girl Design.
- Sketch. Try it at this place.
- Really surreal photography by Rodney Smith, here.
- Amazing money origami at Bloggertrail.
- And something my husband desperately needs to learn, get rid of things, at how to get rid of things.
Oh, and I’m so delighted to tell you this: I wrote to kooky chef Gerhard Jenne to tell him that I loved his book and that he inspired me to use my imagination, lots of vibrant colors and most of all, to have fun with my cookie decorating. He wrote me back! He said he enjoyed looking at my portfolio and particularly liked my Day of the Dead lady with sparkling pink hair. I broke out into a sweat reading that. After reading and re-reading his message, I was walking on sunshine for the rest of the day.
Tomorrow my home will finally be free of intruders - people coming and going and claiming to fix things in our apartment - so I hope to block off some time in the kitchen and do a little something. I’m thinking…another tribute to another king…?

All cool stuff you’ve posted. I think it’s really cool the Chef responded to you. I’m NOT surprised he liked your stuff. We do.
Paz
Lots of fun - your wanderings on the web (just killed a good ten minutes with that sketch thing!) and getting a letter from your kooky chef - of course he likes your stuff… it’s great!
I have no idea who Gerhard Jenne is, but I’m excited for you anyway!
(You’re MY Gerhard Jenne!)
Whouhaaaa so nice links you gave us!
How wonderful to get a reply!
Mari, thank you for stopping by my blog. It gave me a chance to come here again and see your latest outrageously gorgeous cookies. You are sooo talented!
Hi Paz, Glad you liked the links and thanks for the compliments. You’re a good cookie.
Hi Cathy, Isn’t that sketch thing addictive? When I first found it I did it for nearly half an hour! It’s kind of awkward to use an ordinary mouse to sketch…
Marilyn, Thanks! I mentioned Gerhard Jenne, a chef, in a previous post ‘ode to a kooky chef.’ He wrote a book that inspired me a lot.
Babeth, merci de visiter mon blog! Tu es tres gentille.
Carolyn, I didn’t think he’d respond at all (I think he operates several bakeries/cafes). If you ever go to one of his shops, let us know!!!
Hi Nupur, Drop by anytime!
